Breast Cancer Zero Stage
information on breast cancer?
A relative of mine was recently diagnosed with breast cancer (stage one). What is the difference between the first stage / second stage or phase of zero? What are the treatments? any experience and information will be appreciated! thanks!
The stage describes the size of the tumor and the extent of its spread, Stage 0 – In situ (limited to the milk ducts, not spread outside the breast). Stage I – tumor less than 2 cm. No spread. Stage 2 – Tumor 2-5cm, with or without involvement of lymph nodes. No spread. Stage 3 – Tumor more than 5 cm, or any size, but rather to the fixation to the chest wall, muscles or skin, or has spread to lymph nodes above the collarbone. Stage 4 – Tumor of any size. The cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Cancer also will be graded: n general, a lower grade indicates a slow-growing cancer, while indicates a greater degree of faster growth of cancer. Grade I – cancer cells resemble normal cells and are not growing quickly Grade 2 – the cancer cells have characteristics between grades I and III Grade 3 – the cancer cells look more abnormal and may grow or spread more aggressive treatment varies by grade and stage, and the number of lymph nodes affected. For example, if the cancer is first grade, 1-stage treatment may be just the surgery, and possibly hormone therapy if the cancer is estrogen positive. My cancer was grade 3 stage 3 and I had surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormonal therapy. (4 years after diagnosis I am fit and well with no sign of cancer in my last review.) You and your family can find these websites helpful. Besides being a mine of information, both have forums where their family (and) can talk with others in the same situation. Really do not know how he would have endured without Internet forums in the early days, it is much better than going through it alone. http://www.breastcancer.org http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk Best wishes, do e-mail if I can be of more help
